The John F. Kennedy High School Chapter of the NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY (NEHS) NEHS Membership Process 2023-2024
Step 1: Determine your eligibility.
If you currently have at least an 85 GPA (unweighted) English average (not including English electives), complete the application and submit it to NEHS Google Classroom by Tuesday, October 10th, 2023.
Deadline: Tuesday Oct. 10th, 2023.
Step 2: Determine how you plan to meet the following requirements: o Enter a minimum of two (2) writing contests during your junior year. One MUST BE the NCTE Awards in Writing Contest.
The first writing contest entry must be completed by Friday, December 15th, 2023. You must include the name of the sponsoring organization, the contest prompt, and the actual submission to NEHS Google Classroom.
Post the second writing contest submission (NCTE) to our NEHS Google Classroom and email Ms. Atkins by Friday, January 2nd at: [email protected] and [email protected] (information will be forthcoming).
Check with your English teacher and the English Department website under the tab “Department News” for writing contest information. Contests are also posted outside of the library in the display case.
The tentative ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 after school at 2:30. The location will be announced.
Step 4: Continue to excel in English.
It is expected that as a senior next year, you will maintain your membership by maintaining an academic average indicative of an NEHS member.
Please note the following: Failure to meet the expectations above, as well as a failure to maintain an 85% average or above in your current English class, will jeopardize your candidacy. If there are any circumstances that arise as the year progresses, please come and see me or your English teacher immediately; do not wait until the deadline to address any extenuating circumstances. We will hold elections during the first marking quarter to fill the officer positions for the 2023-2024 school year. If you have any concerns, you can email Ms. Gaye at [email protected], or see your English teacher.
Google Classroom: Please email Ms. Gonzalez for access code
